IRS Experience:
I filed for an offer in compromise over a year ago. I owe about 44,000 and the lawyer said he could get it down to about 20,000. After we turned in all the paper work the IRS said that I could pay it all. I don't know what planet they are on, I can't!! That is why I spent $3,000 for a lawyer to get it down. I have 2 kids to support and my wife only works 1 day a week. I don't have any assets to liquidate or anything valuable. I am ready to have a breakdown!!! I don't have 400.00 extra a month like they said, what if the kids get sick or our hot water heater goes out. I can't even have a bank account. Anyone have any ideas to help? I an ready to go to jail !

Hang in there. I went through the same things. I have a debt of $46,000, offered about half that and was rejected. They asked me to submit a bank statement to prove my income. In that particular month I sold a pontoon boat and used the entire amount to pay off the loan. The IRS saw the deposit and claim that was my monthly income. They were trying to tell me that I made in excess of $360,000 per year. They are completely incompetent. I have had to involve lawyers, CPA's, and other tax professionals. Whats even more funny is that my original tax debt was only $12,800! Now with all their penalties and interest it is over $46,000. We don't need credit card refrom, we need reform to protect us from our own government! Anyone who thinks we live in a democrocy is nuts.....
